New Delhi: Adani Power Ltd. is set to develop a 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant at Pirpainti village in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district with an investment of up to $3 billion. The project will supply 2,274 MW of net power capacity to state-run utilities in Bihar.

The company has received a Letter of Intent from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. to supply the power to North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. from the upcoming facility.

Adani Power emerged as the lowest bidder in the tender process, quoting a final power supply tariff of ₹6.075 per kWh.

The greenfield project will be developed on a Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) basis and will consist of three 800 MW units.

The first unit is expected to be commissioned within 48 months of the appointed date, with the final unit to be operational within 60 months.

“We are pleased to have won the bid to develop and operate a 2,400 MW thermal power project in Bihar. We will set up a new greenfield plant with an investment of up to $3 billion, which is expected to further aid industrialisation in the state,” said S.B. Khyalia, CEO, Adani Power.

The power plant will source coal through an allocated linkage under the Government of India’s SHAKTI (Scheme for Harnessing and Allocating Koyala Transparently in India) policy.

According to the company, the project is expected to create 10,000–12,000 jobs—direct and indirect—during its construction phase and around 3,000 jobs once operational. Adani Power also expects to receive the formal Letter of Award shortly, after which a Power Supply Agreement will be executed with the state utilities.
