Contribution of digital locks may touch 10 percent of overall category in next 2-3 years: Godrej Locks

A top official of Godrej Locks believes that the rate of growth which digital locks will witness in the next three years might be 10 percent of the sales in the segment.

"The rate of growth of digital locks in the last few years is far higher than that of mechanical locks and this trend will continue. The penetration of digital locks is just three percent of our total sales even today. However, we believe that the contribution of digital locks will touch 10 percent in the next two or three years. This will happen in a very short span of time,"  Shyam Motwani, Business Head at Godrej Locks & Architectural Fittings and Systems, said in Kolkata.

"We are now in the middle of executing the roadmap for digital locks which will use all the modern technological facilities available today," he said.

Motwani was visiting Kolkata to unveil ‘My Home Safety Quotient’ - an online assessment wherein consumers can assess their own homes’ safety through a quick questionnaire.

The company launched the assessment as a part of its annual campaign ‘Har Ghar Surakshit’.

Godrej Locks has been celebrating Nov 15 as Home Safety Day.

Last year, a special initiative called ‘Live Safe, Live Free Programme’ was announced wherein free home safety assessments were conducted across 52 locations across India (in 10 most vulnerable cities as per NCB data) in 52 weeks.

This programme reached over 17,500 households.

"The launch of the ‘Home Safety Quotient’ is backed by the findings from our research, that shed light on the significant impact of home safety concerns in the lives of many," he said.

Speaking on Kolkata, he said: "Kolkata currently contributes 44%  of the revenue to the East Region of the business and aims to grow by 20%  over the last year, with a focus on Tier 3 & 4 towns through their 'fit for the market' product strategy."
