Indian carmaker Maruti Suzuki on Friday unveiled its maiden electric vehicle e-Vitara at the ongoing Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi.

With the launch of the car, Maruti joined the competition race against other major electric car manufacturers in India- Tata Curvv EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV and the Mahindra BE 6.

Suzuki Motor Corporation had earlier unveiled the e Vitara in Milan, Italy.

The automaker previously announced that the car would be manufactured in India in spring 2025.

The sales of the car is expected to begin in various countries, including Europe, India, and Japan, around summer 2025, the company said.

"The e VITARA is based on the concept model 'eVX,' which was showcased at the Auto Expo held in India in January 2023, and at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW in October of the same year," the company had said in a statement.

The BEV powertrain consists of the highly efficient eAxle that integrates the motor and inverter, along with the lithium iron-phosphate batteries designed for safety and reliability.

"It achieves the characteristic nimble acceleration from a standstill and sharp acceleration during overtaking from low to high speeds," the company said.

“ALLGRIP-e” is an electric 4WD system that utilizes Suzuki's expertise in four-wheel drive technology, featuring two independent eAxles at the front and rear.

Speaking on late entry in the EV segment, Toshihiro Suzuki, President and Representative Director, Suzuki Motor Corporation told The Financial Express: “We have been studying the market. We have seen how our competitors’ products have fared and we know what the Indian market needs.”

The price of the car was not announced so far.

As per the Nexa Experience website, the car will have a range of 500 kilometres.
