From Oracle layoffs in the US to an India comeback: Couple’s emotional story goes viral

| @indiablooms | Apr 10, 2026, at 02:49 pm

A US-based Indian couple, recently laid off from their jobs, have decided to return to India after their American dream hit a roadblock, sparking mixed reactions online.

The woman shared their situation in a Reddit post, revealing that she lost her job in October 2025, while her husband was laid off in a recent round of job cuts by Oracle.

With a strict 60-day deadline to leave the United States approaching, the couple has decided to move back to India by July 2026.

Detailing their situation, she wrote:"Hello everyone! My spouse was recently impacted by the company-wide layoffs at Oracle USA. His 60-day grace period starts on April 11, 2026. With no PERM or I-140, he cannot renew his H1B. I lost my job in October 2025 and have been unemployed since, awaiting my H4 visa. Based on legal advice and limited time, we've made the difficult yet practical decision to return to India."

She added that they are now focusing on rebuilding their lives and careers in India and sought advice from others who have gone through similar experiences—particularly on how long it might take to secure employment after returning.

Social Media reactions

The post quickly gained traction, with users offering both practical advice and emotional support.

One user cautioned: "Make sure you leave at least a week before the 60-day grace period ends. Even a slight overstay can create complications."

Another shared a similar experience: "I was laid off from Amazon in 2024 and returned within the grace period. Start applying early and include an Indian phone number in your resume—it helps recruiters take you more seriously. Depending on your skills, job hunting could take anywhere from 1 to 6 months."

A different perspective encouraged a pause: "If finances allow, take a break. Layoffs are emotionally draining. Use the time to reset—you might even discover new opportunities."

Oracle cuts 30,000 jobs globally, 12,000 hit in India

Oracle has reportedly slashed around 30,000 jobs globally, including nearly 12,000 in India, in a sweeping round of layoffs, media reports said.

Employees across teams said they received termination emails as early as 5–6 am, informing them that their roles had been eliminated.

Oracle has an estimated workforce of about 30,000 in India, including those affected by the latest cuts. Reports suggest the company may undertake another round of layoffs soon.
