Kolkata, Aug 11 (IBNS) Cellphone manufacturer Gionee on Tuesday opened three stores in Kolkata.

The company has also undertaken a leukemia initiative, pledging to eradicate the disease and provide medical facilities to the underprivileged children.

The company will be donating Rs. 10 to this initiative for every unit of cellphone sold by them.

The three stores, one each in Shyambazar, Bangur and Sakherbazar will cater to the growing demand of smartphones in Kolkata.

Tollywood actress June Maliah was present at the opening of the Shyambazar store.

In between posing for the shutterbugs, June added, "The cellphone is like my private secretary. I am not much of a laptop or a desktop person. I prefer the phone."

When quizzed about their specialty, Arvind Vora, Managing Director and COO, Gionee India, said, "Our product is ahead of its time. We deliver good products for the customers."

The mobiles are priced between Rs. 1750 and Rs. 30,000. The cellphone is going to use their own operating software. They have teamed with Android to provide rich experience to their users.

Vora said, "We are going to invest 25-30 crores rupees for marketing in Bengal and about 250 crores in India."

According to him,Gionee accounts for 10 percent of market share in mobile sales across West Bengal, something they are looking to improve on.

He said, "The big plan is to open 15-20 stores in Kolkata over the next couple of years."
