Gopal Rai resigns as Delhi transport minister o health grounds

New Delhi, June 14 (IBNS) In a significant development, AAP leader Gopal Rai on Tuesday said he has quit as Delhi's Transport Minister on health grounds.

He rejected corrupt charges made against him.

"Due to health reasons I have resigned as Transport Minister," Rai tweeted.

"Many people are spreading rumours that I have quit due to Premium Bus Service scheme. There were no corruption in this scheme and I did not quit due to it," Rai tweeted.

Health minister Satyendra Jain has been given additional charge of the transport ministry.

Gopal Rai got mired in the app-based premium bus service scam after it was alleged that the scheme was floated to favour a particular company.

The premium bus service, which was rolled out in May, had to be withdrawn when Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung voiced his suspicion about special treatment to one company, media reported.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal asked Gopal Rai to present himself at the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) with all relevant papers, according to media reports.

On Monday, Gopal Rai said that he was prepared to go to jail if charges of corruption were proved.
