GST collections rise 6.2% YoY to ₹1.85 lakh crore in June; net mop-up improves despite monthly dip

New Delhi: India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for June 2025 rose to ₹1.85 lakh crore, registering a 6.2% year-on-year increase from ₹1.73 lakh crore collected in June 2024 — a sign of sustained economic activity and compliance momentum.

However, on a month-on-month basis, collections dropped 8.2% from May’s all-time high of ₹2.01 lakh crore, reflecting typical seasonal variations and clearance cycles.

The net GST revenue, after accounting for refunds, stood at ₹1.59 lakh crore, up 3.3% YoY and higher than the ₹1.53 lakh crore recorded in May.

Refunds issued in June totalled ₹25,491 crore, marking a sharp 28.4% jump over the previous year — indicating improved refund processing and higher claim volumes.

For FY26, the government has projected an 11% rise in GST revenues, aiming for total receipts of ₹11.78 lakh crore, which includes Central GST and compensation cess.

State-level performance showed wide variation. Smaller states and Union Territories such as Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Bihar, Lakshadweep, and Ladakh reported robust growth ranging between 22% and 71%.

In contrast, large states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana saw muted growth of up to 8%.

States such as Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan posted moderate gains of around 10%.

While sequential figures showed a pullback from May’s peak, the overall upward trend in both gross and net GST collections suggests a healthy revenue trajectory heading into the second quarter of FY26.
