Hyundai competes with Tesla in EV segment, launches its first electric sedan with new emblem

The company's first sedan is one among 31 electric vehicles that the Hyundai Motor Group, including Hyundai Motors, its sister company Kia Motors, and high-end brand Genesis plan to launch through 2030 to hold an estimated 12 percent of the EV market globally, Reuters reported. 

Hyundai and Kia shipped 13.5 percent of EVs worldwide, excluding China, during the Jan-May period, second to Tesla which was able to ship 22 percent, according to industry tracker SNE Research.

The Ioniq 6 will be the first Hyundai vehicle to carry the company's new emblem.

Another interesting feature of the electrified streamliner is the IFS partial light control function that detects approaching vehicles and prevents dazzling effects from the high beam for other drivers while securing clear visibility for the driver, Hyundai said.

Hyundai said its Ioniq 6 will boast a driving range close to 380 miles, almost 30 percent higher than the Ioniq 5 crossover.

The price of the latest EV model of the South Korean automaker remains undisclosed.

Ioniq 6 will be available in 53 kilowatt per hour (kWh) and 77.4 kWh battery pack options, as per media reports. 

The production will commence in the company's Asan plant in South Korea in the later part of this year, according to media reports.
