ICAI comes up with new initiatives

Kolkata , July 20 (IBNS): The Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) is the second largest accounting institute in the world that has been creating plenty of career opportunities all over the world and a clutch of new initiatives have been taken to take the institute forward, said its president K. Raghu here while awarding the students with membership status and certificates at its convocation here recently.
"ICAI Chartered Accountants are in great demand in India and outside especially in places like Dubai, Singapore and Melbourne," said Raghu at the convocation function  at Kalamandir. 
 
Such Convocation is organized by the institute twice every year where membership certificates are conferred to the members. The total attendance of students was 500 this time.
 
ICAI completed 65 years of excellence on  July 1 and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was the Chief Guest at the function in New Delhi.
 
Several  initiatives have been launched by the Finance Minister, like Cloud Campus, ICAI Digital Library, ICAI Online Store and Pre Budget Memoranda 2014. 
 
The latest initiatives undertaken are revision of syllabus, study material in different modules, e-learning on the Students Learning Management System (LMS), ICAI TV Channel; formation of Committee for Review of Education and Training (CRET); Campus Placement Programme etc.
 
Among the other initiatives are signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Saudi Organization for Certified Public Accountants (SOCPA. The interactive sessions are now  available on Google Hangout while Global Career E- Kit has been launched besides a Women Portal, to provide women members a medium to explore suitable opportunities and Convergence with IFRS.
 
ICAI also provides scholarship to the deserving and needy students. 
 
“CA is a very popular educational course and here one can study CA at a cost of just Rs. 25,000," said Raghu.
 
“Today the underlying expectations are changing, we want young students to accept us," he said.
 
ICAI has 147 branches with 2.30 lakh members and  8.50 lakh students scattered all over the world.
