Indian benchmark indices close at fresh record high on Monday

Mumbai, Jan 8 (IBNS): Indian benchmark indices closed at a record fresh high on Monday, with BSE Sensex up 198.94 points at 34,352.79 and NSE Nifty up 64.70 points at 10,623.60.

Top gainers included Coal India, Lupin, Infosys, Sun Pharma, L&T, Hero Motocorp and Tech Mahindra while Idea Cellular, Bharti Airtel, ONGC, Power Grid Corp, Tata Steel, SBI, Adani Ports and Asian Paints declined.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced on Monday that the Central government had notified the Companies (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Amendment Act) on Jan 3, 2018. A few provisions in the Amendment Act have important bearing on the working of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (Code).

According to media reports, National Highways Authority of India, part of the Ministry of Road Transport and h\Highways, has sought an allocation of Rs 30,000 crore from the Finance Ministry through Central Road Fund (CRF) for the union budget of 2018-19.
