Indian Market: Sensex down 537.22 pts

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Wednesday dropped 537.22 pts to close at 56,819.39 on weak global cues.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too slipped 162.40 pts at 17,038.40.

The day opened on a weak note at 56,983.68, fell 373 pts.

During the day it was dropped 772 pts at 56,584.04, days low before closing at 56,819.39, sliding 537.22 pts from its previous close.

The sensex registered days high and low at 57,079.03 and 56,584.04 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,110.70 and 16,958.45 respectively. Selling in sectoral indices like Utilities, Telecom, Finance and Power dragged the market.

In scrips, Bajaj finance was a top loser, slid 7.24 pc at Rs 6716.65 followed by Bajaj Finserv by 3.88 pc to Rs 14,828.55, ICICI Bank by 2.21 pc to Rs 737.05, Titan by 2.14 pc to Rs 2491.55 and Dr Reddy's Lab by 1.94 pc to Rs 4074.05.

The gainers were Tata Steel by 1.05 pc to Rs 1246.50, Asian Paints by 0.72 pc to Rs 3148, TCS by 0.47 pc to Rs 3561.30 and HCL Technology by 0.17 pc to Rs 1096.

The Mid Cap fell by 0.88 pc and Small Cap by 0.65 pc. In 30 scrips, 6 advanced while 24 declined. In Asian Market, Australia was down 0.75 pc, Japan by 1.17 pc and Taiwan by 2.05 pc.
