Indian Market: Sensex down 843.79 points

Mumbai: Extending losses for the third consecutive session on Tuesday, the BSE Sensex tanked 843.79 points to settle at 57,147.32 as heavy selling was witnessed in Realty, Metal, Telecommunications, Technology and IT stocks.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too slumped 257.45 points at 16,983.55.

The Sensex rose marginally by 13 points at 58,004.25. It was gained further by 36 points at 58,027.52, days high.

Later, it was dropped nearly 941 points at 57,050.40, days low, before closing at 57,147.32, down 843.79 points from its previous close.

Stocks like Realty, Metal, Technology and IT kept the market low.

In scrips, IndusInd Bank was a major loser, down 3.70 per cent to Rs 1165.45, Nestle India Ltd by 3.13 per cent to Rs 18,499, Tata Steel by 3.05 per cent to Rs 100.10, Tech Mahindra by 2.58 per cent to Rs 1003.35 and HCL Technology by 2.67 per cent to Rs 936.70.

The gainers were Axis Bank by 0.96 per cent to Rs 784.20 and Asian Paints by 0.58 per cent to Rs 3297.30.

The Mid Cap declined by 1.76 per cent and Small Cap by 1.60 per cent.

In 30 scrips, 2 advanced while 28 declined.

Asian Market remained negative, as Australia fell by 0.40 per cent followed by Hong Kong by 2.23 per cent, Japan by 2.64 per cent and Taiwan by 4.35 per cent.
