Indian Market: Sensex ends at life- time-high of 61,765.59 points

Mumbai/UNI: Extending gains for the seventh sessions in a row, the BSE Sensex on Monday closed at a new peak of 61,765.59, surging 459.64 points following gains in Metal, Utilities and Power stocks amid strong global peers.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rallied by 138.50 points at 18,477.05.

In opening session, the Sensex went up by 512 points at 61,817.32. During the day, it spurted 658 points at 61,963.07, the days high before closing at 61,765.59, surging 459.64 points from its previous close.

The Sensex registered the days high and low at 61,963.07 and 61,624.65 points respectively.

The Nifty recorded the days high and low at 18,543.15 and 18,445.30 points respectively.

The sectoral indices like Metal, Utilities, Power and IT kept the rally intact for Monday too.

The sectoral indices like Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank and ITC advanced while selling in HCL Technology, M& M, Dr Reddy's Lab and Asian Paints capped from further gains, brokers informed.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.95 per cent and Small Cap by 0.69 per cent.

In 30 scrips, 17 advanced while 13 declined.

In Asia, Nikkei and Hang Seng rallied over 1.5 per cent each. S&P/ASX 200 was up a per cent. Straits Times and KOSPI added 0.3 per cent and 0.6 per cent, respectively.
