Indian Market: Sensex gains 92.90 pts

Mumbai, Oct 16 (UNI) Extending gains for the fourth straight day, the BSE Sensex on Wednesday moved up by 92.90 points to 38,598.99 on the strength of buying in ONGC, Yes Bank and HDFC scrips tracking positive Asian cues.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) too rose by 43.25 points to 11,471.55.

Though volatility was seen during the day, the market ended in positive only at 38,598.99, up by 92.90 points from its last close.

The Sensex gained by 131 points to open at 38,637.05. It rallied by 160 points to 38,666.38 day high before closing at 38,598.99, advancing by 92.90 points from its last close.

It registered day low at 38,416.67, sliding by 90 points.

The sectoral indices include, Materials, Energy, Finance, IT, Technology and Consumer Durable kept the market firm during the day.

In scrips, Bajaj Finance, ONGC, HDFC, HCL Tech and Yes Bank rallied while selling in Hero MotoCorp, VEDL, Asian Paints and NTPC capped from further gain, broker informed.

The broader market was mixed. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was down 0.14 pc. but the S&P BSE Smallcap index was up 0.21 pc.

On the BSE, 1148 shares rose and 1321 shares fell. A total of 198 shares remain unchanged. In Nifty 50 index, the market breadth was positive with 30 stocks advancing and 20 stocks declining.

Asian shares ended higher. South Korea's central bank cut its interest rate for the second time in three months on Wednesday, following its first cut in July.
