Indian Market: Sensex zooms 555.75 pts

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex on Friday registered a massive gain of 555.75 pts to close at 65,387.16 on the strength of Utilities, Metal and Oil and Gas stocks amid mixed global cues.

Even, the Economic growth of 7.8 per cent in the three months ended June, the highest in the past four quarters too boosted the same.

The Nifty moved up 181.50 pts at 19,435.30.

The Sensex rose 24 pts to open at 64,855.51 pts. During the session, it was spurted 642 pts at 65,473.27, days high, before closing at 65,387.16, up 555.75 pts from its previous close.

In stocks, Metal was a major gainer up by 3.32 pc followed by Utilities by 3.09 pc, Telecommunications services by 2.73 pc and Oil and Gas by 1.85 pc.

In 30 scrips, 24 advanced while 6 declined.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.75 pc and Small Cap by 0.75 pc.

The gainers were NTPC by 5.23 pc to Rs 231.45, JSW Steel by 3.47 pc to Rs 807, Maruti Suzuki by 3.25 pc to Rs 10,332, Powergrid by 3.23 pc to Rs 252.50 and Tata Steel by 3.03 pc to Rs 126. 70.

The losers were Ultracemco by 0.50 pc to Rs 8273.20, Nestle India Ltd Ltd 0.26 pc to Rs 21,935, L& T by 0.16 pc to Rs 2701.70 and Sun Pharma by 0.11 pc to Rs 1111.00.
