Mumbai/UNI: The Rupee on Tuesday slipped by 16 paise to close negative at 74.42 against the USD on rising demand for US Dollar by bankers and exporters, dealers at the Forex Market said.

In opening trade, the local unit dropped 11 paise to 74.37 during the day it further lost and settled at 74.42, sliding by 16 paise as compared to its previous close.

The Rupee tumbled down due to firm dollar against other world currencies amid robust equity market, dealer said.

The local unit registered days high and low at 74.46 and 74.10 respectively.
