Iran war impact: HCLTech allows WFH as fuel shortage disrupts office cafeterias

Chennai/IBNS: IT major HCLTech has allowed its employees in Chennai to work from home amid fuel shortages triggered by the ongoing West Asia conflict, Mint reported.

The company has offered employees the option to work remotely on March 12 and 13 as operations at office cafeterias have been disrupted due to a shortage of cooking gas.

Several cafeteria vendors are reportedly struggling to function amid a crunch in LPG supply after Iran restricted movement through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, impacting fuel supplies.

However, in a major diplomatic relief for India amid the Middle East crisis, Iran has allowed Indian oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, easing concerns over a potential crude supply disruption for the country.

Iran reportedly granted the exemption following talks between India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, India Today reported citing sources.

India has reportedly joined countries such as China and Russia that have been exempted, even as the United States, Europe, and Israel continue to face restrictions in the strategic waterway.
