Jammu and Kashmir: Badgam CASO ends, militants escape after brief encounter

Srinagar/UNI: The Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched on Monday afternoon in the central Kashmir district of Badgam ended on Tuesday as militants managed to escape after brief exchange of fire, official sources said.

They said on a tip-off about the presence of militants in village Kawoosa, Badgam, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation.

However, there was brief exchange of fire when security forces were moving towards particular area in the densely populated village. Firing from militants stopped after brief firing, they said adding later additional security forces were rushed to further tighten the cordon.

However, due to darkness the operation was stopped though strict vigil was maintained after using flash and other lights. There was no fresh contact after initial encounter, they added.

It was reported that one of the militant was injured in the encounter, they said adding that with the first light this morning CASO was again launched.

Security forces thoroughly searched nallah Sukhnag. However, nothing was found and CASO ended, they said.
