Mumbai, Mar 16 (IBNS): Key Indian benchmark indices posted a heavy decline on Friday with BSE Sensex down 509.54 points at 33,176 and NSE Nifty down 165 points at 10,195.20, largely due to poor performance by index heavy weights, according to reports.

Coal India, Ultratech Cement, Tata Motors, Tata Motors (D), Asian Paints, Adani Ports, Hero Motocorp and BPLl were some of the key stocks that declined.

Top gainers on Friday included Idea Cellular, HCL Tech, Wipro, M&M, HUL, Yes Bank and Tech Mahindra.

Meanwhile, the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) of Andhra Pradesh, formally parted ways from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre on their demand for special status for the state being ignored, according to media reports.

TDP ministers in the Union government had already resigned from their posts a week ago but the party had maintained its relation with the BJP.

On Friday, TDP leader and state chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu formally declared that the TDP has exited from the NDA, reports said.

Tweeted N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday, "Telugu Desam Party has decided to officially exit the National Democratic Alliance due to failure in fulfilling the promises made in the State Reorganisation Act. This decision was taken unanimously, in a teleconference with Politburo members, today."
