Kolkata: GM, SER holds post Budget review meeting

Kolkata, Mar 8 (IBNS) A K Goel, General Manager, South Eastern Railway held a Review Meeting at South Eastern Railway (SER) headquarters Garden Reach on Tuesday where various facets of Railway Budget 2016-17 like increase of revenue by augmenting carrying capacity of freight, elimination of unmanned level crossings to achieve the mission of zero accident, improving the quality of passenger services, proper utilization of Budget outlay on SER projects, improving the punctuality on an average of more than 95% etc were discussed.

Goel, while reviewing the performance of S E Railway in freight and passenger sectors, stated that all necessary steps should be taken to achieve the target fixed by Railway Board for the current financial year i.e. 2015-16.

During the first eleven months of the current financial year i.e. from April to February, SER has loaded 120.87 million tonnes of freight as against 111.73 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year, thus registering a growth of 8.18 %.

The freight loading target for the current financial year is 134 million tonnes and SER is poised to surpass the target.  As a result of this remarkable loading performance, South Eastern Railway has generated freight earnings of Rs 9323.94 crores during April- February of current financial year registering a growth of 8.78% in comparison to the corresponding period of last financial year.

Earnings from passenger traffic during the above period i.e. April to February of the current financial year have been Rs. 1683.40 crores which is a growth of 10.99% in comparison to the corresponding period of last financial year.
