Bangalore /Kolkata, June 29 (IBNS) : MAN Diesel & Turbo SE a wholly owned subsidiary of MAN SE, acquired 100% of the shares of MaxWatt Turbines Pvt. Ltd., an Indian specialist company for engineering, production and service of steam turbines for applications in power generation and mechanical drives.

After the acquisition MaxWatt will be integrated into the Turbo business of MDT and the new entity will operate under the name MAN Turbomachinery India Pvt. Ltd.

“MaxWatt is a well-established player in the Indian and Asian power generation business in the lower power segment”, says Uwe Lauber, CEO and Chief Sales Officer of MAN Diesel & Turbo SE.

Lauber said, “By acquiring them we expand our portfolio and add steam turbines for numerous standard applications to our existing high end product range. At the same time we gain access to new customer groups and market segments. MAN Diesel & Turbo has always chased M&A projects, if they satisfy a sound strategic rationale. With MaxWatt there are close to zero overlaps in the product ranges, which is why it is an excellent match for us.”

MaxWatt Managing Director C. G. Venkatesh, who will continue to lead the business, also welcomes the acquisition: „MAN Diesel & Turbo is a global premium brand and leading company in the power generation business. MaxWatt customers all over the world will profit from an extended product range, a worldwide sales and service network and the know-how of a global player, all of which will be gained thanks to this merger.”

Headquartered in the industrial metropolis of Bangalore, MaxWatt employs more than 150 people in engineering, production, sales and service. It has installed a three-digit number of steam turbines in the field and caters to a worldwide customer base. The so far privately owned company has been steadily growing since its establishment in 2003.

MaxWatt’s range of products will be fully integrated into MAN Diesel & Turbo’s portfolio after the merger. MAN’s workforce in India will increase to more than 650 employees. The MaxWatt headquarters in Bangalore will be MAN Diesel & Turbo’s first  steam turbine production site in India.

“India is a large country with huge growth potential and it is on a good path”, says Emmanuel Ferdinand, Senior Vice President at MAN Diesel & Turbo and Managing Director of the company’s Indian business. “The Indian Government has set course to trigger growth and further update the country’s infrastructure. The “Make In India” campaign, the availability of skilled manpower and a strong judicial system provide a good platform to expand our local footprint. Our new Bangalore base will also help us to broaden the scope of our Turbomachinery business not only in India but also in South-East-Asia.”

MAN Diesel & Turbo already has a significant number of turbomachinery installations in India and runs a service shop for turbo machinery in Vadodara (Gujarat) in addition to an engineering and production center for large Diesel engines in Aurangabad (Maharashtra), and several sales hubs all over the subcontinent.
