San Bernardino/IBNS: McDonald's, the US fast fast food joint, has fired its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Steve Easterbrook for having a relationship with an employee of the company, media reports said.

McDonald's said Easterbrook has violated the company's policy though the relationship was "consensual".

In an email to the company, Easterbrook acknowledged his relationship with the employee and said it was his mistake.

"Given the values of the company, I agree with the board that it is time for me to move on," Easterbrook has been quoted by BBC.

The 52-year old British businessman, who is a divorced, became the CEO in 2015. Prior to assumption of this post, Easterbrook worked as the company's manager in London back in 1993 and MacDonald's head in the UK and Northern Europe between 2013 and 2015.

In 2011, he had left the company and had a stint in some other food joints.

Chris Kempczinski, the president of McDonald's USA, will take over the CEO's post.
