Sensex crashes 790.34 points as market closes for today

The BSE Sensex on Wednesday tanked 790.34 pts to settle at 72304.88 as heavy selling was seen in Utilities, Power, Oil and Gas and BSE services stocks amid mixed global cues.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) slud 247.20 pts at 21951.15.

The NSE registered days high and low at 22,229.15 and 21915.85 pts respectively.

The Sensex opened at 73162.82, rising 67 pts. It surged 128 pts at 73223.11, days high. Later' it was tumbled down nearly 873 pts at 72222.29, days low, before closing at 72304.88, sliding 790.34 pts from its last close.

The Mid Cap fell 1.82 pc and Small Cap by 1.94 pc.

In 30 scrips, 4 advanced while 26 declined.

The losers were Powergrid by 4.43 pc to Rs 279.55, Maruti Suzuki by 2.94 pc to Rs 11164.95, IndusInd bank by 2.93 pc to Rs 1449.15, M& M by 2.68 pc to Rs 1901 and Wipro by 2.68 pc to 517.10.

The gainers were Hind Unilever by 0.78 pc to Rs 2423.70, TCS by 0.33 pc to Rs 4116.40 and Infosys by 0.19 pc to Rs 1667.95.
