Tata Motors opens scrapping centres in Lucknow and Raipur to boost sustainable mobility
Mumbai: Strengthening its push for greener transportation and a circular economy, Tata Motors on Wednesday announced the opening of two new vehicle scrapping facilities—under its Re.Wi.Re (Recycle with Respect) initiative—in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
The centres were virtually inaugurated by Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
The facilities are part of the government’s National Vehicle Scrappage Policy and are equipped to safely dismantle end-of-life passenger and commercial vehicles, including two- and three-wheelers, from all brands.
“These modern centres mark a progressive step under the scrappage policy, which empowers citizens to switch to cleaner, more fuel-efficient vehicles through structured incentives,” said Gadkari.
He noted that the initiative will also help recover valuable materials through scientific recycling, while making vehicle scrapping more accessible and efficient across India.

He lauded Tata Motors for establishing a pan-India infrastructure that aligns with global standards and furthers the cause of sustainability.
The Raipur centre, operated by Raipur Green Energy Pvt Ltd, can dismantle up to 25,000 vehicles annually.
The Lucknow facility, run by Moto Scrapland Pvt Ltd, has a capacity of 15,000 vehicles per year.
“Sustainability is not merely a commitment at Tata Motors—it is a foundational pillar shaping the future of mobility,” said Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors. “With the widest nationwide network of Re.Wi.Re facilities, we are now equipped to responsibly dismantle over 1.75 lakh end-of-life vehicles annually.”
With these two new additions, Tata Motors now operates 10 scrapping centres across the country, including in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune, Guwahati, and Kolkata.
Each facility follows a paperless, fully digitalised process and includes dedicated dismantling stations for tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, and gases.
Commercial vehicles, passenger cars, and even two- and three-wheelers undergo systematic dismantling in compliance with the scrappage policy.
