New Delhi, May 18 (IBNS): Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has always undertaken various activities with an aim to improve the quality of life and uplift the economic conditions of its surrounding communities.

To further empower communities at the grass root level, Tata Power has set up Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) four Training Hubs   in India to train, test, certify, and accredit over 2500 power sector workforce through modular skill development approach by FY16-17. The four training hubs set up are TPSDI Shahad and TPSDI – Trombay (Maharashtra), TPSDI - Maithon (Jharkhand) and TPSDI- Mundra (Gujarat), would aim to bridge the skills gap that exists across the value chain, and to help build a capable workforce.

Professional competence in the changing power sector requires not just cutting-edge technical skills, but also effective commercial and interpersonal skills. Despite the vital importance of industry-specific skills, training for these skills can be extremely difficult to source. Understanding this, TPSDI has employed a 360 degree approach for holistic development of workers in power-skills and encourage them to reach their full potential.

The  Training Hubs  are fully equipped to conduct training across the a  range of power sector  skills like power system skills, power plant skills, and provide hands-on practice to trainees with state-of-the-art equipment. They house well equipped class rooms, computer labs, and electrical and mechanical labs with equipment for training.

The electrical lab is for hands-on training in motors, drives, transformers, LOTO and other skills. The mechanical lab is equipped with all power plant related equipment like pumps, valves, gears, alignment, bearings, precision tools, gauges and LOTO, etc.

Speaking on this initiative,  Anil Sardana, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Power, stated, “Skill development is an essential ingredient for India's future economic growth as the country transforms itself into an internationally competitive economy. Creating new jobs is only a part of the equation for employment in today's developing India as over 12 million youth are joining the workforce each year. We at Tata Power aim to contribute to nation building and empower our stakeholders by implementing various programs that benefit their overall development. Through such skill development programs, we aim to make a distinct impact in improving the skills of our Associates' workforce and subsequently ensuring a stronger future for the power industry as a whole."
