Tata Steel announces 'Samvaad 2015'- A Tribal Conclave

| | Nov 15, 2015, at 02:58 am
Jamshedpur/ Kolkata, Nov 14 (IBNS): Hues from indigenous cultures will vividly paint the landscape of the steel city as it plays host to Samvaad-2015, a tribal conclave by Tata Steel, from Nov 15-22, 2015. Picture this: 1,500 delegates, 40 tribes representing 19 States will descend on Jamshedpur’s Gopal Maidan, the heart of the eight-day extravaganza.

Photo gallery offering insights into the indigenous cultures, handicrafts exhibition and tribal delicacies will be some of the major draws of the conclave, besides cultural performances. Together with celebrating the vast tribal diversity of our country, this event commemorates the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, the iconic Indian tribal freedom fighter. The pan-India event is being organised by Tata Steel’s Tribal Cultural Society.

The emphasis for this year’s Samvaad is Preservation, Protection and Promotion of Tribal Languages, which is invariably a discerning topic in our country today. Samvaad aims to provide a common platform to stimulate valuable exchange and cross-pollination of aspects and issues that surround the Indian tribal culture and heritage.

This one-of-its-kind tribal conclave would therefore help in documenting and preserving a body of knowledge and formulate a world view on the tribal culture and language which run the risk of being obliterated.

The conclave will be inaugurated by T V Narendran, Managing Director, Tata Steel India and SEA and Mr Koushik Chatterjee, Group Executive Director (Finance & Corporate), at 5 pm on November 15, 2015.

Speaking about the initiative, T V Narendran said ‘We are commited towards the welfare of the local and indigenous community in line with the philosphy of Tata Steel. Towards that end last year we created Samvaad which was a great success. This year  we expect even larger participation in this event for tribal communities to come together, share collective wisdom so as to stimulate valuable exchange of knowledge and ideas’

“For Tata Steel, it’s a moment of great pride to host the second edition of Samvaad. This year, our focus lies on strengthening the much sought-after zeal required to preserve and promote tribal languages,” underlines Sunil Bhaskaran, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel.
