Another Kolkata traffic cop succumbs to COVID-19, 8th fatality in the force

Kolkata/IBNS: Kolkata Police on Sunday reported its eighth Covid-19 fatality as a traffic constable posted in Jorabagan Traffic Guard succumbed to coronavirus.

According to reports, traffic constable Dipankar Sarkar, who was battling Covid-19 in a city hospital, died on Sunday morning.

"We deeply mourn the untimely demise of Constable Dipankar Sarkar, who was posted in Jorabagan Traffic Guard. He was affected with COVID-19 and was at the forefront of our Fight Against Corona," Kolkata Police tweeted.

Mouring his death, Kolkat Police Commissioner Anuj Sharma wrote on Twitter: "Sad, Dipankar Sarkar of Jorabagan Traffic Guard expired in hospital today. He had been tested Corona positive. We stand by his family during their hours of grief."

Earlier, seven more Kolkata cops, including an Inspector-rank officer, an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), four constables and a civic volunteer, succumbed to Covid-19.

So far, over 900 Kolkata Police personnel have tested positive for the deadly virus while more than 600 of them have recovered from the infection.
