Assam: 12 COVID-19 patients die at GMCH within hours

Guwahati: At least 12 COVID-19 died within hours at GuwahatiMedical College & Hospital (GMCH) in Assam’s capital city Guwahati on Monday night which created a panic situation among other COVID-19 patients admitted at the hospital.

According to the GMCH authorities, the death occurred due to low oxygen saturation levels.

GMCH Superintendent Dr Abhijit Sarma said that, out of 12 COVID-19 patients who died last night, two patients died in emergency and all of the patient’s SPO2 levels were recorded low.

“9 patients who were in ICU and other 3 patients were in ward died within 24 hrs of admission. Two died in emergency,”Dr Sarma further said that, none of the cases were vaccinated with saturation less than 90 percent on arrival to GMCH.

On the other hand, Chief Superintendent of the government-run hospital Dr Achyut Baishya said that, it is not sudden death, the oxygen saturation levels of the patients were recorded low on arrival to GMCH.

Assam on Monday had registered 2689 new COVID-19 cases with the positivity rate of 2.01 percent.
