Assam : 16 newborns die in Jorhat Medical College hospital within a week, probe ordered
Guwahati, Nov 10 (IBNS): Assam government has sent a team of medical expert to Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) following the deaths of at least 16 infants within a week in a government run hospital.
The team led by Dr Anup Barman, Director of Medical Education will study the deaths and investigate the matter.
According to the reports, at least 15 newborns have died in the government-run hospital in Upper Assam’s Jorhat district between Nov 1 and 6.
Saurav Borkakoti, Superintendent of JMCH said that, 15 infants have been died at the special care newborn unit of the hospital between Nov 1 and 6.
The Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) authority has already formed a six-member committee to probe the matter.
One death took place on Nov 9.
“The Head of the Paediatrics department informed me that at least 15 newborns have been died between November 1 and 6. I feel that, it is not a normal incident and immediately formed an inquiry committee to probe the matter and to evaluate the actual facts,” Saurav Borkakoti, Superintendent of JMCH said.
