Assam governor lays foundation of Powergrid Capacity Development Centre in Oncology at Dr. B.Barooah Cancer Institute

Guwahati, Jan 4 (IBNS) : Assam governor Banwarilal Purohit laid the foundation stone of a ‘Powergrid Capacity Development Centre in Oncology’ at Dr. B.Barooah Cancer Institute in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion Purohit called upon the people at large to adopt life style which has the potential of developing a deterrent against diseases like cancer.

Expressing concern over the alarming rise of oncology related cases in the state, Purohit said an active lifestyle coupled with total abstinence from all narcotic substances have the potential to build shield against cancer.
     
Sending a message of caution to the people, that North East has high prevalence cases of oral, throat and lung cancer, Purohit urged upon the people to avoid tobacco in all its forms.

The Governor requested the hospital authorities to take steps to bring about psychological and behavioural changes in the patients addicted to chewing and smoking tobacco which according to him would go a long way in preventing cancer.
       
Stressing on the right kind of food for staying away from life style and food related diseases, the Assam governor advocated for organic farming and asked the people to eat healthy food to stay fit and free from diseases.

He also requested B. Borooah Cancer Institute to lay emphasis on generating mass awareness for prevention and early detection of cancer.

The Assam governor hailed the gesture of  Powergrid Corporation of India Limited for taking the steps for the proposed Capacity Development Centre in Oncology at Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute which other Public Sector Undertakings should also follow.
     
Lauding Dr. B.Barooah Cancer Institute along with its Director Dr. A. C. Kataki and other doctors, the Governor said because of the role of the Institute cancer treatment has become accessible and affordable.
     
Synchronising with occasion the governor conferred the award of Excellence in Social Service on G.L. Agarwala, Chairman of GLP Social Circle, Guwahati. M.P.Agarwal, Managing Trustee, Nirmal & MP Agarwal Trust was also felicitated for his contribution to the welfare of cancer patients.

Abhay Chaudhary, Executive Director, Powergrid Corporation of India Limited, Shillong, Director of Dr. B.Barooah Cancer Institute Dr.A.C.Kataki along with a host of other dignitaries were also present in the ceremony.
