Bangladesh records highest 53 fresh COVID-19 fatalities

Dhaka/UNI:  Bangladesh recorded sharpest spike of 53 COVID-19 fatalities in past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,262.

It also registered as many as 3,862 fresh cases, bringing the total number of infected 94,481‬, a health update said on Tuesday.

Some 2,237 people were declared recovered from the novel coronavirus infection, taking the total recoveries to 36,264.

Meanwhile, patrolling of Army is being strengthened in "red zones" of the country to implement government instructions properly, an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate press release said.

Earlier, the government has finalised the list of virus hotspots to be labelled “red zones” according to the recommendations of the national technical committee formed to tackle the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Forty-five areas in the capital, 11 areas in the port city of Chattogram, the entire Gazipur district, and few areas of Narayanganj and Narsingdi have been identified as "red zones".

Bangladesh reported its first COVID-19 case on March 8 while death ten days later.
