Chennai baby gets mysterious burns, docs say rare syndrome

Chennai, Jan 19 (IBNS) In a rare medical condition which causes mysterious burns on body, a baby is being treated by a special team of doctors in a hospital here for 'Spontaneous Human Combustion Syndrome.'

A team of doctors are monitoring the seven-day-old baby amitted to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital (KMC) while trying to investigate into the causes of the burns appearing on his body without any apparent reason.

Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan told reporters that the baby's  medical condition causes mysterious burns on his body.

"The baby has a burn injury on his leg. We are planning to give treatment to the baby's mother as well and w have set up facilities that can closely monitor the child", he said.

The baby was admitted to the hospital on Sunday.


"We have done a study and are investigating on how burns occur. We are closely monitoring the baby and a special team headed by me has been formed", Dr Guansekaran, a senior doctor supervising the case, said.


The baby's elder was also brought to the same hospital in 2013 with same condition, he said.
