Coronavirus tests using rapid test kits commences in Tamil Nadu

Chennai/UNI: With the arrival of rapid test kits, health officials in Tamil Nadu has put the kits to use with the first tests begin done at Salem, the home district of Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, today.

Official sources said 18 people were tested for Coronavirus at the Salem government hospital and all of them tested negative.

The results were out in about 30 minutes and they were accurate,” sources said.

The kits were also put to use in Chennai and Coimbatore and it would help the health officials to screen a large number of people to ascertain whether. they were exposed to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, 12,000 more rapid test kits reached the city on Saturday.

The kits sent by the central government reached the city airport and they were being despatched to various parts of Tamilnadu.

With this, Tamil Nadu has now received 36,000 rapid test kits, as the first consignment of 24,000 kits reached the State on Friday.

The Rapid Test Kits would be used to check people in containment zones, barricaded after positive cases were reported, whether any one were exposed to Coronavirus.
