Coronavirus vaccines to be capped at Rs. 250 per shot in private hospitals: Centre

New Delhi/IBNS: Coronavirus vaccines will be capped at Rs. 250 per shot at private hospitals and health centres, the Union Health Ministry has said in a statement.

Vaccination will be free of cost in government hospitals and health centres.

The government has informed that it will allow people to choose a vaccination centre after the campaign expands on Monday to inoculate those over 60 years and those over 45 with illnesses.

People can register through the government's CoWIN 2.0 portal, the Aarogya Setu app, or walk into vaccination centres.

States have been instructed to actively mobilise people.

There are more than 10,000 private hospitals in the country that are cleared to give out vaccines apart from all government hospitals and health centres.

Those above 60 will have to show their identification cards only to prove their age. The ones above 45 years will have to procure a form signed by a registered medical practitioner certifying the critical illness.

The country has halted the vaccination process this weekend to upgrade software used to coordinate its campaign. India started vaccinating health workers since Jan 16.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 infections in India rose 16,488 in the past 24 hours to stand at 1.10 crore, health ministry data stated on Sunday.

During the last 24 hours, the country recorded 113 deaths to reach 1,56,938.
