COVID-19: 2,198 infection cases, 38 deaths recorded in Bangladesh in past 24 hours

Dhaka/UNI: The death toll from coronavirus has reached 6,713 as 38 more people died from the disease in the last 24 hours.

Besides, 2,198 more tested positive for the virus, raising the number of such cases to 4,69,423.

Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release on Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours, 15,972 samples were examined and out of them, 2,198 got positive results for the virus. Apart from, 2,562 more recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 385,786, the press release added.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year. The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 1,488,734 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles a number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 64,272,419 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 44,528,406 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
