COVID-19: Manipur imposes total curfew for 10 days from July 18

Guwahati: As cases related to Delta variant of COVID-19 in the state are rising, the Manipur government decided to impose a total curfew in the state for ten days from July 18.

A notice issued by the Manipur Health department said with the wide prevalence of Delta variant of COVID-19 in Manipur, there is need to take stringent measures to break the chain of transmission.

“Therefore, state government has decided to declare a total curfew from July 18 for ten days,” said in the notice.

“Only essential activities related to vaccination, covid testing, medical services, water supply, power supply, telecom/internet services, air travel and agricultural activities would be allowed,” said in the government notice.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said all institutions, except the essential services, will remain closed.

Further, only the people coming out for vaccination and testing will be permitted to venture out.

N. Biren Singh tweeted, “In view of the Covid situation in the State, there’ll be a strict curfew from 18-28 July. All institutions, except the essential services, will remain closed. Further, only the people coming out for vaccination & testing will be permitted to venture out.”

Manipur on Thursday reported 1039 new COVID-19 positive cases and 14 deaths.
