Dates for 2nd International Optometry Conference announced, will be held virtually

New Delhi/IBNS: India Vision Institute will host the 2nd International Optometry Conference on the virtual platform from September 9 to 11 this year.

The theme for this year’s conference is Eye Health in a Changing World, and the conference will focus attention on eye health and emerging threats.

Global and national experts will convene virtually to renew attention on eye health, vision impairment and prevention of avoidable blindness, including the role of Optometry in addressing challenges the organisers said. 

The three-day conference, with around 15 pre-conference workshop sessions on September 9, will have keynote sessions, panel discussions, parallel tracks and paper/poster presentations on September 10 and 11.

The conference, supported by EssilorLuxottica, was announced during the launch of the conference website by IVI’s CEO Vinod Daniel in the presence of Akash Goyle, Country Manager and Managing Director, Luxottica India, and Raghavan NS, Country Manager, Essilor South Asia.

With the launch of the conference website, the call for abstracts will be made shortly, the organisers said.

CEO Vinod Daniel said, “The conference themes will be on myopia and best practice models for its management, the role and influence of big data and artificial intelligence in eye care, human resource challenges, legislative frameworks & associated issues, and partnerships.”

Eight keynote talks at the conference will focus on a range of topics including Global Eye Health: Vision beyond 2020, Advocacy to Tackle Avoidable Blindness, Human Resources Challenges in Eye Care Delivery, Management of Low Vision Patients during the Pandemic, Myopia Control – Practitioner’s Perspective, Partnership Building and Artificial Intelligence in Eye Care.

Offering over 40 hours of interactive and live sessions, over 2,000 eye health professionals from India and abroad, a majority of them, optometrists, are expected to participate as delegates in the event.

The conference will also have a trade fair showcasing products, services, and innovations by industries, corporates and institutions.

On the pre-conference day, September 9, specialty talks will include Contact Lens Management of Keratoconus - New Developments by the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE), Myopia by BIPOK, Vision Rehabilitation for Children with Special Needs – L V Prasad Eye Institute, Geriatric Eye Care, Effective Ways to Engage Students - Dispensing Optics, Binocular Vision, Low Vision, Occupational Optometry, Public Health and Challenges in Online Optometry Education.
