Delta variant capable of infecting fully vaccinated people: Virologists

New Delhi/IBNS: The delta variant is the fastest, fittest and most formidable version of Coronavirus, having the potential to infect even the fully-vaccinated people,  virologists and epidemiologists have observed, raising concern at a time when most parts of the world are relaxing restrictions.

Protection from vaccination remains very strong against severe infections and hospitalizations caused by the majority versions of the coronavirus.

However, those unvaccinated are still at risk, leading COVID-19 experts were quoted as saying by Reuters.

The most infectious-prone of all the variants is the Delta strain, which spreads from one person to another very fast. This variant has the strength to cause serious health problems in people getting infected by the same, even leading to hospitalisations for the unvaccinated.

Evidence has been found that the Delta variant is also affecting people who have received two shots of COVID vaccines at a much greater rate, said reports.

Viruses constantly evolve through mutation and lead to new variants, which are often more infectious than the previous version.

As per experts, masks, social distancing and other measures relaxed in countries with broad vaccination campaigns may again be needed to combat the delta variant.
