Electric buses for Rohtang Pass

| | May 03, 2016, at 09:14 pm
New Delhi, May 3 (IBNS) The union government has approved in principle for funding 75% of the cost of 25 electric buses subject to maximum of Rs.37.50 crore to the state government of Himachal Pradesh, informed Minister of State in the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, G.M. Siddeshwara in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

He said the National Green Tribuanla (NGT) has also been informed.

He also said that funds will be released as and when the state government requests for it, after issuance of supply order.

To reduce effects on environmental pollution on Rohtang Pass, NGT has restricted the number of vehicles travelling through Rohtang Pass for tourism purposes to 600 petrol vehicles and 400 diesel per day on first-come, first-serve basis and directed that each vehicle allowed would have to pay an environmental cess, media reported.

The local cabs have been protesting saying that this directive coupled with the long wait for filling CNG  are hampering their business, which is highly seasonal.
