Former Indian captain takes initiative to raise funds for cancer patients

Kolkata, Apr 13 (IBNS): Tata Medical Center recently announced their fund raising activity, ‘Dada’r Shongey Dil Sey Dijiye’, in collaboration with former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, to facilitate the phase –II expansion of the critical oncology cure unit of Tata Medical Center hospital.

Recalling the pain that cricketer Yuvraj Singh while being diagnosed with cancer, Ganguly said: “I'm happy to see him recover and play the sport again which I thought was impossible at one stage.I have known him very closely for a long period of time. I've seen him go through the pain and suffering. I'm sure Tata Medical Centre makes such a difference to a lot of lives which get unnoticed."

Thanking the participants for their support, Ganguly said: "Your support will make a difference to the lives of so many. I'm sure with this foundation we in Kolkata will make a difference to the lives of so many children, men and women who suffer from the disease which at times gets incurable. I'm extremely proud that this centre has come up in the city. This is a city which needs such facilities."

On the phase II expansion of the hospital, Dr. Mammen Chandy, Director, Tata Medical Center said: “The radio therapy department at Tata Medical Center works round the clock to facilitate treatment for patients. With the ever increasing growth rate of cancer, we are facing challenges in accommodating many cases and there is a long wait for treatment. In order to meet this demand for cancer treatment, the Tata Medical Center has embarked on an expansion plan: Phase II will have 250 additional beds, a dedicated floor for children with cancer and three linear accelerators.With Dada’r Shongey Dil Sey Deejiye, we hope to generate funds that will add the required impetus to this expansion.”

Sourav Ganguly will be seen walking the ramp for raising funds. Besides walking on the ramp he will he seen auctioning his cricket gear.

“It is heartening to see that an initiative like Dil Sey Dijiye has received such a heartwarming response from across the city. With dada on board and the generosity of people from Kolkata, we hope to facilitate the Phase II expansion of the oncology care at Tata Medical Center and provide support and care to those fighting the battle against cancer,” said Geeta Gopalkrishnan, Honorary Director-Donor Relationship, Tata Medical Center.
