Hong Kong approves persons vaccinated with Covaxin for inbound travel

New Delhi/UNI: Travellers who have received both doses of Covaxin are now eligible for inbound travel to Hong Kong as the country has included the India-made COVID-19 vaccine into its list of approved vaccines.

Hong Kong has updated its list of approved vaccines on Wednesday where it showed that Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine candidate was also featured.

However, the travellers from India would still have to complete 21 days of quarantine after arrival since the subcontinent is listed in "high-risk" places by the Hong Kong administration, according to the government's notification.

The development has come days after the World Health Organisation granted Emergency Use status to Covaxin.

"Covaxin was found to have 78 per cent efficacy against COVID-19 of any severity, 14 or more days after the second dose, and is extremely suitable for low and middle-income countries due to easy storage requirements," WHO had said.

So far, 96 countries have recognised Covaxin and Covishield. Canada, the US, Australia, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Russia, and Switzerland, are among the 96 nations who have approved of both India manufactured vaccines, the Centre said on Tuesday.
