India records over 24,000 COVID-19 cases in last 24 hrs

New Delhi/IBNS: Setting a new record, India registered  24,850 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's tally to 6,73,165, the Union Health Ministry stated on Sunday.

India witnessed 613 deaths during the period, taking the total number of fatalities to 19,268.

The active cases in the country have mounted up to 2,44,814 while 4,09,083 people have been discharged or have recovered so far.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in partnership with  Bharat Biotech has announced to launch a vaccine to combat COVID-19 by Aug 15.

'COVAXIN' will undergo clinical trials after the Drug Controller General of India - CDSCO, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, has granted permission to start phase I and phase II of human trials following the company's preclinical studies, demonstrating safety and immune response.
