India records steep rise in COVID-19 with 8,582 new cases in last 24 hrs

New Delhi/IBNS: Raising alarm again, India reported 8,582 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.

As many as four fresh fatalities were also recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the Covid related death count in the country to 524,761.

With this, the country's active caseload currently stands at 44,513.

The recovery rate is presently at 98.68 per cent with 4,435 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra alone recorded 2,922 new cases and one death in the last 24 hours, the health bulletin said on Sunday.

With the new cases, the state’s cumulative case tally has surged to 79,07,631 and the death toll is at 1,47,868.
