New Delhi/IBNS: Reporting the lowest daily cases in 18 days, India, which is massively hit by the second wave of Novel Coronavirus, added 3.26 lakh new infections on Saturday.

With 3,26,098 new Covid-19 cases reported in 24 hours between Friday and Saturday mornings, the tally of infections has surged to 2,43,72,907.

On the other hand, 3,890 deaths linked to the virus were reported from across the vast country in the last 24 hours.

The new deaths further pushed the Covid-19 toll to 2,66,207.

At a time 1.3 billion people of India are hoping for the pandemic to get over soon, World Health Organisation (WHO) director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Friday warned that the second year of Coronavirus was going to be far more deadly than the first.

During a media briefing, the UN health body chief said more than 3.3 million lives have been lost globally due to the virus and "we’re on track for the second year of this pandemic."

"Trickle down vaccination is not an effective strategy for fighting a deadly respiratory virus. COVID19 has already cost more than 3.3 million lives and we’re on track for the second year of this pandemic to be far more deadly than the first," he said.
