India reports 36,470 Covid-19 cases, tally nears 80-lakh mark

New Delhi/UNI: India recorded 36,470 fresh cases of Covid-19 during the past 24 hours, pushing the country caseload to 79,46,429 lakh while the death toll soared to 1,19,502 with 488 fresh fatalities.

According to Union Health Ministry, the active cases saw a drop of 27,860 and currently stood at 6,25,857 which accounted for 7.88 per cent of the total caseload.

The total number of tests for Covid-19 conducted in the last 24 hours is 9,58,116, much lower than what was done a few weeks ago.

However, the Covid-19 tally is feared to take a jump after the festive season though the eastern state of West Bengal has witnessed a much low-key Durga Puja celebrations.
