New Delhi/IBNS: India, a country of 1.3 billion people, reported 46,759 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said Saturday.

Kerala, the south Indian state, has alone added 32,801 of the 46,000 odd cases.

In the same span of time, 509 people died apparently due to the virus in the country.

In 24 hours between Friday and Saturday mornings, 31,374 COVID-19 patients have recovered. The overall recovery rate stands now at 97.56%.

The active cases now constitute 1.10% of the total cases.

In positive news, India achieved a new milestone in its COVID-19 vaccination drive by administering over one crore doses Friday, its highest single-day count so far.

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the people for making the immunisation exercise a success.

"Record vaccination numbers today! Crossing 1 crore is a momentous feat. Kudos to those getting vaccinated and those making the vaccination drive a success," he tweeted.

So far, 62.29 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country
