Italy's death toll from coronavirus rises to 31,908

Rome/Xinhua/UNI:  A further 145 COVID-19 patients had died in the past 24 hours in Italy, bringing the country's death toll to 31,908, according to fresh figures on Sunday.

The number of recoveries rose to 125,176, an increase of 2,366 compared to Saturday. Nationwide, the number of active infections fell by 1,836 to 68,351, according to the Civil Protection Department.

Of those who tested positive for the coronavirus, 762 are being treated in intensive care, a decrease of 13 from Saturday, and 10,311 people are hospitalized with symptoms, down by 89.

The remaining 57,278 people, or 84 percent of those who have tested positive, are in isolation at home without or with only mild symptoms.

The total number of COVID-19 cases combining infections, fatalities and recoveries has risen to 225,435, up from 224,760 a day earlier.
