Kolkata rain batters evening commute, waterlogging chokes key roads
Heavy rains lashed Kolkata on Thursday afternoon and evening, disrupting normal life across the city, triggering widespread waterlogging and severe traffic congestion during peak office hours.
Several major roads in central and south Kolkata were inundated, forcing vehicles to crawl through waterlogged stretches and causing significant delays for commuters.

Traffic hit across major corridors
According to the Kolkata Traffic Police, traffic movement was severely affected on a number of key roads, including AJC Bose Road, Sarat Bose Road, Amir Ali Avenue, Amherst Street, Camac Street, Alipore Road, Park Street and ATM Road.
As the evening progressed, congestion spread to other parts of the city. Slow-moving traffic was reported on CR Avenue, MG Road, College Street, Theatre Road, Maa Flyover and sections of AJC Bose Road due to the accumulation of rainwater.
Office-goers face delays
The downpour coincided with the evening rush hour, worsening traffic conditions across several important intersections and arterial roads.

Commuters travelling between commercial hubs and residential neighbourhoods faced long delays as vehicles struggled to navigate flooded stretches.
Over 84 mm of rainfall recorded
The Regional Meteorological Centre recorded 84.6 mm of rainfall in Kolkata on June 25.
The city also witnessed extremely humid conditions, with relative humidity reaching 100 per cent.
More rain likely
The weather office has forecast a generally cloudy sky over the next 24 hours, with thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall likely at several places.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain around 32°C and 25°C, respectively.
With more rain on the cards, authorities have urged residents to stay updated on weather and traffic advisories and plan their travel accordingly.
