Kolkata's RN Tagore Hospital launches Eastern India’s first Cone Beam CT Cath lab

Kolkata/IBNS: RN Tagore Hospital, a unit of Narayana Health, in Kolkata's Mukundapur, has launched a second interventional radiology catheterisation laboratory (Cath lab), making it the first facility in Eastern India equipped to perform simultaneous interventional procedures.

Doctors said this new Cath lab enhances the institute’s capacity for advanced vascular and oncological care, establishing it as a leader in innovation and treatment outcomes.

The new dual interventional Cath lab is equipped with the first Canon Cone Beam CT Interventional Cath Lab system in India, a technological breakthrough that offers superior precision, reduced radiation exposure, and enhanced system mobility for better patient access.

The advanced setup includes better access to the patient, more advanced guidance to direct devices, and more television monitors, allowing larger teams and trainees to observe procedures from multiple perspectives.

This additional Cath lab will become integral to the institution's Aortic team, which comprises cardiac surgeons, vascular surgeons, and interventional radiologists.

The team delivers complex aortic procedures, including newer cases, using advanced closure devices that eliminate surgical scars and improve recovery times.

In addition, the oncological procedures and neurovascular procedures including acute stroke will also benefit.

Speaking about the new facility, Shuvro H Roy Choudhury, Director and Clinical Lead of interventional and Endovascular Radiology, said, “Our first cone beam CT Cath lab, installed in 2014, was revolutionary. With the addition of this second lab, our capabilities are now further enhanced."

"The new lab’s advanced visualisation and guidance technology and expanded observation capabilities allow procedures to be viewed from multiple angles, providing a comprehensive treatment and learning experience,” Roy Choudhury said during a presser in the city on Thursday.

Abhijit CP, Director of Narayana Hospital - RN Tagore Hospital and Corporate Growth Initiatives, Narayana Health (East), said, “The dual interventional Cath lab is a transformative step forward in cardiac and vascular care, rooted in patient-centricity.”

Adding to this, R. Venkatesh, Group COO, of Narayana Health, said, “This facility will serve as a benchmark for integrated interventional, high-quality cardiac and vascular care."
