Maharashtra: Mucormycosis claim 2 lives in Thane

Thane/UNI: Mucormycosis, a black fungal disease that affects Covid-19 patients, has claimed two lives, Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) Health department sources said on Wednesday.

Dr Ashwini Patil said the deceased were from Thane rural and another from Dombivali. While six are being treated at Covid-19 centres of private hospitals in the limits of the KDMC, she said.

She said that the patients need not panic.

"The disease has been mostly found in those having uncontrollable diabetes, therefore such patients are advised to keep their sugar level under control," said Patil.

Mucormycosis is found in the Covid-19 patients and the use of Steroid should be made at an appropriate time and measure, she further added.

The corporation was making every effort to successfully treat such patients, Dr Patil added.
